Searching for a playground to test out some solid known and new technologies, a really nice pet project came along. My girlfriends family has a small business, and a problem that solidifies in most households and especially in small business where multiple family members are responsible and interested in incoming mail and the followup processes is Document Management.
Usually we have documents which come from various sources in some different formats. Scanned letters, pictures taken with a smart phone, an EMail, the output of some other software, who cares. To have everyone on the same page, lets store all of this in one searchable, processable central place and allow various usages to work on these documents and their meta data.
Of course there are already ready made solutions for this from all major player software companies and a wide arrangement of open source projects exist to handle these typical use cases. But as I want to get back into an engineering mindset, I’ll take it as a challenge to roll my own.
I’ll try to use some interesting technology that is new to me but well established on the market. Not to go to the bleeding edge, but to a solid flickwerk of a solution.
